Yakovich's Sveshnikov book says 16...f4? 17. Qh5 and white is a tempo up on the variation 16. Bc2 (instead of 0-0) f4 17. Qh5 Rf7 18. Bxh7 Kf8 19. Bf5 Qe8 20. Bxe6 Qxe6 21. Qg4 Qh6 22. Nf5 Qe6 23. Nfe3 Qh6 repeats. This seems to matter only because after 16...f4? 17. Qh5 Rf7 18. Bxh7 Kf8 now 19. Bg6 is a possibility, because fxe3 is not possible, whereas in the Bc2 line with no time for 0-0, fxe3 is just good for black if 19. Bg6? instead of Bf5.

On board 2, Larry gave me a break by passing up 19...Nc5! which embarrassingly wins instantly; the only remedy to Nc5-b3 is the sad 20. Rb1 Rxa2 and black wins! The last and only other time I played him was 1979 in Maryland (OTB, I was black, draw after he sort of misplayed 1. c4 Nf6 2. Nc3 e6 3. Nf3 Bb4 4. Qc2) so it's pretty weird to tangle with someone 30 years later!

I still think Uesugi's f4 move is completely losing. I don't own any Sveshnikov books, but there have to be plenty - isn't it in one of those?
